Community & Education

Schools and Colleges

Crown Lane has a passion for working with students who want to experience creating music first-hand. Contact us today with your postal address for our schools info pack or call 020 8540 5643 for more details. There are so many ways in which your pupils can benefit from working with Crown Lane. We work closely with MMF, Merton’s youth music provision.

The London Borough of Merton

Crown Lane works closely with the London Borough of Merton on many arts events. Recently we produced the music for the New Year’s Day Parade in London; coordinated the music and PA for local events in Merton including the recent Community Cohesion Toolkit launch; and continue to work with pupils who have been excluded from schools in the area.

PA and Recording Training

Crown Lane offers a flexible course looking at many different recording and/or PA techniques, and can be constructed to suit your personal needs. Areas for training could include:

  • How to capture the best sounds using microphones
  • How to balance a group of musicians
  • How to use EQ in a simple and effective manner
  • How to record live events
  • How to put together and record an album
  • How to work with musicians effectively
  • Speaker and foldback positioning
  • Problem solving

John has extensive experience in running audio training, for music technology students, and those involved in live sound engineering. Contact Crown Lane for more information and to discuss your specific training needs.

Drum Tuition

Individual drum and percussion tuition is available. Lessons are priced at £15 for 1⁄2 hour and take place at Crown Lane Studio. See the shop page for booking details.

Drumming Groups

Crown Lane runs 10-week drumming courses for groups of 8-16 people called DrumgrooveUK, which allows absolute beginners and seasoned players to work together on hand percussion. The sessions are very interactive, fun and fast-moving. Ask for more details of the next course, or alternatively speak to us about setting up a group where you are.

John also runs short 5 session lunch-time or after school drumming groups at primary or secondary schools in the London Boroughs of Merton and Sutton. If you want to introduce a new fun and educational music group into your school, then call us for more info.

Visits and Trips

Half day visits to the studio are available for small groups and individuals keen to learn more about life in a working studio. During the session there is an opportunity to record as well as produce your finished CD disc in our duplication suite. These visits are flexible to suit your particular needs.
